I have been using MyTalk with one of my students at lunch for about a semester now. There's a board with what he has for lunch. He would ask for something and I or his aide would put it on his plate and help him eat it. He got to ask for more, the order he wanted food, napkins, etc.
The other day, I decided to have him go through the line with me and choose what he wanted to eat for lunch. I talked to the cooks ahead of time and told them we would come a little earlier so we would have extra time to get through the line and told them to ask him yes/no questions. (I thought that would be the easiest place to start because their lunch menu changes with no warning!) She asked him if he wanted a hamburger, if he wanted cheese, and so on. Not only was he excited about going through the line, he was suddenly trying to carry his tray on his own and wanting to scoop the food by himself. He was very proud of himself when we got to the table.
