Cindy's Problem: I have been working on MyTalkTools Workspace, on the computer, and then trying to merge it with an iPad. It isn't merging and it has before. The only thing that is different is I logged into the Mytools account for the little boy on my iPad. So we have 2 iPads and the computer with the same mytalktools. As of 15 min ago I deleted mytalk my iPad to see if that was the problem. I just talked to my student's mom and the iPad hasn't changed.
Answer: It does not matter that you have sync'd his User Name to your iPad. Any iPad with MyTalk can accept the content from any MyTalk User name, by syncing.
I think it might be the type of merge you are using. Let's stop using sync / merge.
Are you comfortable with the concept behind sync/overwrite device and sync / overwrite workspace?
The idea is that you create in one place and overwrite the other. If I happen to have the device with me I do this many times in the same session. Here is an example:
With iPhone and computer in front of me, I add images using Workspace, quickly dragging items from the libraries over to the board. Since I am doing that work in Workspace, I will do a quick Sync/ Overwrite Device. All of my images will now flow to my device using your wifi (or 3G coverage) and the MyTalk Wireless Sync (watch this video if you have never done a MyTalk sync)
What's next? I like to record on my iPhone, because it's so easy. So for all of those new images that I just sync'd to Mobile (now on my device), I will do a 'record sound' for each cell. When I am done with recording sound on 2 or 3 cells. I want to move those recordings to Workspace, keeping both places up to date.
Now I do a Sync / Overwrite Workspace. At the conclusion of the sync I look at Workspace nothing changed. That's because I need to refresh my browser. I click the refresh button wait for Workspace to refresh (including the libraries) and there are the sounds, playable on Workspace.
I think your problem might be Sync / Merge, our sissy sync. Sync / Merge exists only for people who don't learn the concepts of the overwrite sync's. But Sync / Merge is not as powerful. It looks at date and time stamps associate with the text, the image, the sound on each cell. It's a very safe, but weak merge, our sissy Sync ;)
If you have developed all of your content in one place or the other, do a sync and overwrite the other place. If you are creating content in both places without frequent sync's, you are being dangerous because if you have any conflicting work someone will lose the time invested in their work. You can't have two different things in one cell.
Try this and let me know if that helps. Look at the Sync tutorials to better understand.
