Okay you creative people,
I'm looking for ideas for how to expand my use of MyTalk.
I teach music in a center school for students with severe cognitive disabilities.
If there is one thing that most of my students love, it's music! So I feel a need to push myself to provide a quality of life experience for them each time they attend my class.
I use MyTalk for students to:
Choose songs: I have a pictures to represent songs and the songs loaded in each cell to play directly from MyTalk!!!
Make choices about how music should go: fast/slow, loud/soft...
Choose what app they would like to use to create music
Answer questions about what they just learned. Sadly most teachers don't bring the students' communication devices to class maybe because they are not programmed to be useful in class? : ( So I teach with MyTalk and assess using the same pictures too in a way that supports my state's alternate testing. Yes, it takes time but it's so worth it.
To sequence song sections - I've made icons to help represent sections and loaded phrases of songs.
Play a melody - I recorded each note of a scale and made a board of a scale for students to virtually play.
I have recorded bells and singing each in a pentatonic scale to allow students to virtually perform or sing with others.
Recordings of I, IV, and V chord recordings of guitar playing so students can play harmony to many simple songs with a touch.
Voice opinions of music, like, hate, and I don't know with words, an Acapela voice, and Symbol Styx icon - My school district uses Unique Learning and it uses Symbol Styx so I feel I'm using a standard
Review the classroom rules with Symbol Styx and an Acapela voice
Model from videos
Hint: Often times I create a page in a PowerPoint and save it as a jpg so that visually what I'm trying to get students to focus on visually stands out.
So, I'd love to hear about what other creative souls are up to for more ideas.
My students love using MyTalk. I bet yours would too! Once you "get it" you can't stop trying to think of new and interesting thing to try.
Please help add to the list of ideas!!!
