Life Skills Teacher excited about using mytalk in the classroom!!
I currently teach elementary students with severe disabilities. Four out of my five students lack expressive language and use communication devices to communicate their needs and wants. Currently, my students use their AAC devices effectively and I am looking for a device that can grow with my students as they continue to make progress. Two of my students have mastered putting three to five words into a phrase to make a complete thought. Essentially, they have "outgrown" their AAC device and we are in the process of looking for a device that will fit their needs.
My classroom does have an ipad and I have been on a search since May for an application that is affordable, will fit my students needs, and allow for individualization. Before asking my district to purchase any app, I have done extensive research. I watched your tutorials and visited your website. When I saw a free version to try on the Android, I became overly excited and downloaded it immediately. I spent an evening experimenting and programming my phone to be set up like my student's AAC devices and was overjoyed by the plethora of pictures, the ability to add sound, and the ability to add other menus within one topic/picture.
Honestly, mytalk is just what I am looking for in a communication device for my students. I have been so excited that I am telling staff, friends, and family members about this wonderful program. Having the opportunity to test run it on my phone is a wonderful opportunity for me to present the capabilities to my district. With all of the research and trial runs that I have completed, I hope my district will approve the purchase of mytalk. In my opinion, this is the most affordable AAC device option for the ipad/iphone that enables pictures, voice, and individualization.
Please know that your apps are a wonderful blessing. Mytalk will enable individuals to access the community in a meaningful way and enhance their lives.
Thanks again for all your hard work.

Hi Lauren - Thanks for your kind words. I hope you will keep as posted as things move forward. We love to hear about success stories, and challenges as well. By the way, it's great to see a MyTalk user from my home state of Missouri. A cardinals fan or the other side of the state?
