Action
When referenced in MyTalk documentation, Action refers to the creation of a child board to be opened upon selection of the parent cell.
App Store
Online access for iPod touch/iPhone/iPod to purchase and download new applications, music, video, etc.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
A method of communication for people with challenges or impairments on the production or comprehension of speech.
Author mode
The mode on the MyTalk application that allows the MyTalk Author to create and modify personalized content.
Board
An organizational component of the MyTalk application which enables personalized content to be sorted in a logical, hierarchical way. Boards contain individual cells, the number of which is defined by the “MyTalk Author”.
Cells
A button within a board which can contain up to four types of content and one action. Content capabilities include: image, audio, video (not currently available) and text.
Child Board
A child board is a set of cells that are associated with a cell on the previous board. It is a step below in the hierarchy. For example you may have a cell for food, when the user selects the food cell a new board opens with a variety of snacks. The snack board would be the child board to the food board.
Device
A device (also known as handheld device) in the context of MyTalk is your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch.
File
Image, audio, or video in a digital format that is compatible with the iPod, iPhone or iPad platform.
Tag
An organizational component of your MyTalk Private and Public Libraries which enables you to easily search for files to use within your MyTalk application.
iPad
A portable media player that is compatible with the MyTalk software. Internet capability is only available when connected to a Wi-Fi network.
iPhone
A cellular phone that is compatible with the MyTalk software. Internet capability is accessible from anywhere that a 3G cellular network is available.
iPod touch
A portable media player that is compatible with the MyTalk software. Internet capability is only available when connected to a Wi-Fi network.
iTunes
The iTunes Store is a software-based online digital media store operated by Apple Inc. This is also a location to house your files (images, audio, video, and applications) for use on iPhone/iPad/iPod touch devices.
MyTalk
Software for the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad which enables the device to function as a cost effective, reliable and ultraportable AAC device.
MyTalk Author
The person who develops the personalized language set for the user. In the case of the primary audience (developmentally delayed & expressively challenged) the author and user are different people (parent, teacher, caregiver). In the case of Deaf/HOH or others, they may be the same person.
MyTalk Community
The online forum for users, authors and developers of MyTalk to share their stories, experiences and feedback.
MyTalk User
The person who uses the handheld device to aid in communicating with the general population.
MyTalkTools
MyTalkTools is the companion website to the mobile application that simplifies configuring (board building) and backing up your device.
PayPal
An e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet.
Personalized Content
Images, audio and video (video is not yet available) utilized by the author to customize the MyTalk experience with the user’s own individual preferences.
Private Library
The private library is a feature of MyTalkTools that allows you to upload and store your personalized content online for use in customizing your MyTalk application.
Public Library
A gallery of practical day-to-day images that are provided by MyTalkTools as a convenient way for authors to use generic images to represent common situations.
Syncing
The process of synchronizing your MyTalk customizations to your MyTalkTools account or vice versa.
Troubleshooting
A form of problem solving to assist you in diagnosing and correcting common problems and issues.
Upload
The process of transferring data from your personal computer or iPhone/iPad/iPod touch to another location. In the context of MyTalk, you will be uploading to MyTalkTools.com either directly into a cell, into your MyTalk Private Library, or in the sync process.
User Mode
The mode on the MyTalk application that enables the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch to function as an AAC device. Changes to content cannot be made while in User Mode.
Web Browser
Software that allows you to view and interact with websites. Common web browsers include Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. The two browsers currently supported by MyTalkTools.com are Firefox and Internet Explorer.
