With the release of MyTalkTools 3.1, users are now able to utilize switch capabilities. This article will teach you how to connect your RJ Cooper Switch to your iDevice and MyTalkTools Application.
Do not turn on your RJ Cooper Switch until you are ready for the pairing process and DO NOT depress the switch while turning on the unit. Grab the switch by the base to turn it on for pairing as a way to prevent from holding or depressing the switch during start up. We emphasize this, because the action of holding down the switch while turning off the unit changes the profile of the RJC switch to a 'non special needs' profile that will not work with MyTalk. RJ Cooper support line is 1-800-RJCooper or email rj@rjcooper.com.
To begin pairing your RJ Cooper Switch, select 'Settings' on your iDevice.
Select General in settings.
Open the Bluetooth menu.
Move the Bluetooth slider to the ON position
Bluetooth will now be on and will begin searching for "discoverable" bluetooth devices (such as your switch).
Holding only the base of your unit, turn on your RJ Cooper switch to make it "discoverable". Hold the small red button on the switch (for about 10 seconds or until)
until you see the LED light alternating between red and green rapidly. You may see yellow flashes, but keep holding until you see the red and green alternating rapidly. Now let go.
Your RJ Cooper switch is now discoverable.
You will now see that it is visible on the Ipad (or other iDevice) bluetooth menu as an "AirTurn" device.
Tap 'Airturn..............' to select and pair this device with your iDevice.
Your RJ Cooper switch is now successfully paired with the iDevice.
Turn on switch compatibility with MyTalk Mobile: Scroll down on the settings menu as shown and tap MyTalkTools.
Select MyTalkTools in the settings menu.
Scroll down in the MyTalkTools settings menu until the "Switch/Scanning" section is visible.
Select Switch Type: In "Switch Type" section, tap "None" to open up the MyTalk switch alternatives.
Select the type of switch you will be using, in this case, RJCooper.
Return to the MyTalkTools settings menu by selecting the "MyTalkTools" back button at the top left of the Switch Type Menu.
Next, select the Switch Auto-Scan Interval.
Tap "Do Not Scan" in this section to open the "Switch Auto-Scan Interval Menu".
In the Switch Auto-Scan Interval menu, tap the appropriate duration of the scan interval that suits your specific needs. In the example below we selected "3 Seconds".
Return to the MyTalkTools settings by selecting the "MyTalkTools" back button at the top left of the Switch Auto-Scan Interval menu.
For the RJ Cooper switch, 'Auto-Start Auto-Scan' must be on. Toggle the slider ON.
Finally, if you wish to use Auditory scan (requires optional In App purchase of Acapela voices or an sound file in each cell), toggle 'Auditory Scan' to On. Auditory Scan is NOT required for auto-scan and switch use.
After selecting the Settings above, tap the iDevice Home button to return to your iDevice home screen.
Select MyTalk from your iDevice home screen
The auto-scan and switch capability are now ready for use and will begin scanning based off the settings selected.
DONE!
Using Switch will require different board programming, forcing you to include a Home and Back button within each board. The small back buttons (with the name of the page you will return to) that are at the top left of the screen but outside the boundaries of the board, WILL NOT be scanned. Therefore, incorporate the big 'Back' and big 'Home' Button on every page except your home board.
Another thing to keep in mind when using RJ Cooper switch is the potential need for an app reset due to autoscan. Occasionally autoscan, which is required of the RJ Cooper switch will not function until you reset the application. Once you reset the application, autoscan and your switch will begin working properly. For detailed instructions on how to reset this (or any other app on your iDevice) follow the link below.

If MyTalk and your RJ Cooper switch are not performing exactly as described above, the switch may require a 'profile reset'. See below for detailed instructions for a RJ Cooper Switch Profile Reset.
Paraphrasing from RJ Cooper support:
If You're Connected But Your Switch-Friendly App Is Not Working
It is possible that you accidentally reset the 'profile' (the keystrokes that the BSI 'types' - sending unknown messages to MyTalk).
- Turn the Switch off
- With the BSI OFF, locate and plug the'Y" adapter that came with your BSI into the jack next to the red power button.
- Locate another switch if you have one and plug that switch into the black jack of the Y (if you do not have another switch available contact 1-800-RJCooper)
- At the same time, hold your switch down (in the on position), and turn on the BSI (Switch).
- Once you see any light come on the BSI, release your switch immediately. That will reset back to my profile. Restart the pairing process
