Sync, Backup, Restore and jump start with Sample content
Sync your work even if you don't purchase Workspace. Sync is normally used to make sure that Workspace and your devices have the same content.
- Work in Workspace, sync to Mobile.
- Work in Mobile and sync to Workspace.
Workspace is our optional Web based board building tool that enables remote programming. But even if you don't purchase Workspace, please sync your MyTalkTools Mobile (local) updates. We save your local content to Workspace just in case something happens to your device. If you sync, your work is always safe. Even if you don't purchase Workspace.
Sync should happen every time you update MyTalk Content. Why?
-
As mentioned above, whether or not you purchase a MyTalk Workspace plan, your files and boards will backup automatically every time you sync to your MyTalk account.
-
Syncing allows you to create boards in MyTalk's web Workspace, and do 'on the fly' authoring using MyTalk Mobile, then sync your work so that your content is the same in both spots.
-
MyTalk does not require wi-fi access to Author on the hand-held device using MyTalk Mobile, but when it's time to sync, you will need wi-fi or cell coverage.
- Sync from sample will help new users get started quickly saving time getting you communicating. MyTalk is all about customizing for your end user, but we have created many samples for your to choose from. Sync from sample to look at various starting points. But after you being to customize, don't sync from sample or will will overwrite your customization.
How do I sync?
It's simple. And there are a few different ways. Most sync's are done from your hand-held device using MyTalk Mobile.
When you make any change in Mobile we will prompt you to sync. Tap 'Done' to close Author mode, and you are presented options to
- Sync to Workspace
- Just exit, I will sync later
- Undo your changes
We suggest you Sync to Workspace. Watch:
What if you make changes in Workspace. How do you sync those updates to Mobile.
Sync Choices
Sync / Merge:
Merge is the most commonly used sync. Sync / Merge compares Workspace and Mobile and attempts to update changes made in either place to a new master.
When you select Sync / Merge, MyTalk will look at the date and time for each entry in Workspace and Mobile. If you have created different content in the same cell, that can create conflicts. MyTalk will try to use the latest files, but sometimes customers do things so differently in Workspace than in Mobile, that the program cannot resolve the conflicts. To avoid conflicts we suggest to Sync Often / Sync Small. Get in the habit of syncing your changes when you make them. It's just like saving a term paper or a spreadsheet or any long computer project. 'Save often' translates to MyTalk as 'Sync Often / Sync small'. With any sync activity you are also backing up your data. We keep each sync as a different data set. So, as long as you sync, we can always recover for your work.
Sync/Overwrite Device and Sync/Overwrite Workspace:
Overwrite Device: This takes everything from MyTalk's web Workspace and overwrites all of the content on MyTalk Mobile.
Overwrite Workspace: This takes everything from your Mobile account and overwrites Workspace. That said, when this sync occurs, it becomes the latest copy on Workspace. We keep every sync data set, allowing you to restore any of your prior data sets.
Example: My son has an iPad for home and school, but his iPhone is always in his pocket. If somebody creates boards on the iPhone, and somebody else creates boards on the iPad, while somebody else is creating boards in Workspace, we could have some conflicts. Let's conclude that we are going to keep the iPad content. What are the steps?
1. From the iPad: Sync / Overwrite Workspace. Now all the content from the iPad has been moved to Workspace, overwriting Workspace.
2. From the iPhone: Sync / Overwrite device. We moved the iPad boards to Workspace in the last step. Now we move those boards from Workspace to the iPhone. With those two simple steps, we are now back in sync.
Sync Overwrite From Sample.
This will normally be used When you are getting started. Experiment with our sample content to jump start your board building.
- Use pre-populated Sample boards
- Use the boards of another MyTalk User.
See how:
Sync - Restore from Backup
If you sync often, whether or not you have purchased Workspace, you are protected from lost work. Clients who have lost or replaced devices should follow apples instructions to restore their content, then Use MyTalk's Restore from Backup to access their content.
Multiple Devices / Same MyTalk Workspace account & User Name
Families can have several devices with the same content. Just remember that if you update on one device, you will need to sync to Workspace, then sync from Workspace to your other devices.
Professionals who have one client's data on their iDevice, can simply log in to another client's User Name and that end-user's boards will flow from Workspace to your iDevice. We allow multiple devices to access Workspace because we want your client contact to be used for therapy, even if something has happened to your clients device.
