Creating a Child Board, also known as a linked board.
Often cells (or buttons) are used to link to another board. In MyTalk we call the linked board a Child Board. There are many names for Child or Linked boards but the concept is to move through the boards to get clearer definition of what is trying to be communicated. In the example below we will use the Food board.
The image below shows your home page in Workspace ‘Layout’ View.
Notice the bottom right of each cell. There is no icon at bottom right of Yes, No or Drinks. That indicates there is no Child or linked board. Notice the icon at the bottom right of Food, Needs and Greetings/Manners. The icon looks like a business organization chart. That icon indicates there is a Child board.
When you click on Food, up pops the Food board. See image below.
Let’s create a ‘Drink’ Board under the ‘Drink’ Cell on the home page. From the image above, click ‘Home’. ‘Home’ is above the Food board, top left, under the word Layout.
Now you are back at the home page.
Hover your mouse over the ‘Drinks’ cell and notice that the editing tools appear. See image below.
At top left notice the ‘x’. If you click the ‘x’ you will delete the cell.
Click the scissors image, you will delete the image.
The speaker indicates there is sound attached to that cell.
Click the trash Icon and you will delete the sound.
Click the play triangle and you will play the sound.
Click the pages icon at bottom right and you will create a linked Child board.
Click the gear at the top right and you are presented many editing options. See the image below.
Notice the ‘Child Board’ option. Hover over that and you will see several choices. See below.
For this exercise, we are going to create a Simple Board.
You can accept the default 2x2 board that will give you 4 cells in your child board or change the columns and rows to meet your end user’s needs. For now select ‘Create Board’.
Notice you are now back at your home page. Look closely at the bottom right of the ‘Drinks’ cell. Notice the ‘Child Board’ icon is now present. Click that link, or anywhere on the drinks cell. You are taken to your new board that is without content.
That is one of several ways to add a child board. See ‘Workspace_Creating Content" to get started adding content to your boards.
